vWhy are lens fluids needed?

aFluids are needed to disinfect contact lenses, i.e. to eliminate harmful micro-organisms that stick to the lenses. At the same time the lenses are cleaned to maintain a clear vision for the wearer. Modern fluids also keep the lenses in tip-top shape by adding a soft fluid layer to facilitate the fitting process and wearing the lenses for a longer period of time.
